Juan Wan Wan, Obituary, Death: In Loving Memory of Juan Wan Wan

There are moments in life when grief feels too heavy for words, when the pain of loss settles deep within the heart and lingers in silence. Today, we remember and honor the life of Juan Wan Wan, a bright and beautiful 13-year-old whose life was tragically taken far too soon. His passing has left an entire community in mourning, struggling to comprehend a loss so sudden and heartbreaking.

What should have been a day of joy—a track meet filled with energy, teamwork, and celebration at STEAM Academy McCluer South-Berkeley High School—became a moment of unimaginable sorrow. Laughter turned to fear, cheers turned to cries, and a place meant for growth and achievement became the setting of tragedy. Families, students, and staff who gathered in support were left shaken, their hearts forever changed by what unfolded.

Juan, affectionately known as “Wan Wan,” was more than a student—he was a son, a friend, a classmate, and a young soul filled with promise. He carried a light that touched those around him, a warmth that made others feel welcome and valued. At just 13, he had so much life ahead of him—dreams yet to be realized, milestones yet to be reached, and countless memories yet to be made. That future, so full of possibility, was taken far too soon.

The impact of this tragedy extends far beyond one life. With so many schools present, the pain ripples through an entire community. Another student continues to fight for their life, and many others are left grappling with the trauma of what they witnessed. No child should ever have to endure such fear, and no family should ever have to face such loss.

In the face of this heartbreak, we are reminded of the urgent need for compassion, understanding, and peace. Violence leaves only sorrow in its wake—it does not resolve conflict, it deepens it. We must continue to teach, to listen, and to create spaces where young people feel safe, supported, and heard.

Juan’s life, though tragically short, carries a lasting legacy. In every memory shared, in every story told, his spirit lives on. He will be remembered not for the way he was taken, but for the joy he brought and the love he gave so freely.

Rest peacefully, Juan “Wan Wan.”
You are deeply loved, forever missed, and will always be remembered. 🕊️💔
